Beth Sommer
Co-Lead Toddler Teacher
Hello! I’m Beth Sommers, and I’m honored to be a part of The Willow School as a Toddler Co-Teacher. I’ve worked in the field of early childhood education for over 30 years, including the past nine years at the Bowdoin College Children’s Center in Brunswick, Maine. Throughout my career, I’ve found deep joy and purpose in supporting young children as they explore, grow, and build relationships.
My approach is rooted in the belief that children deserve to be treated with respect, warmth, and genuine curiosity. I strive to create classroom environments that feel calm, joyful, and deeply connected—spaces where children can be fully themselves and feel safe to take risks in their learning and play. I love working with toddlers, especially during this powerful time when their communication, independence, and sense of identity are rapidly blossoming.
I’m also passionate about collaborative teaching and mentorship. I believe in clear communication, shared leadership, and fostering a team culture where every voice matters. I’m constantly learning from my colleagues, the families I work with, and—most of all—the children.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, listening to live music, being in nature, and finding humor in everyday life. I’m grateful to be part of a program that values community, curiosity, and the magic of childhood.
