Maggie is so excited to be joining the Willow School! She has wanted to teach from a young age and has been working in the environmental education space for the last 5 years. 

Wanting to be a classroom teacher, Maggie graduated from Lesley University with a B.A. in Elementary Education and American History. During summer breaks throughout college, Maggie worked on diversified vegetable farms throughout New England. After farming, Maggie knew she had to incorporate the outdoors into her future work. She dove into the place-based education world, working as a naturalist/Outdoor School leader in PA and at a Farm Camp on Martha's Vineyard. Working within the Island's school system, Maggie taught PreK-8 farm-to-school for the last four years. Through this work, she has seen firsthand the copious benefits of teaching alongside nature; not only in the tasks of caretaking for the land, but also in developing confidence, resilience, and building a social-emotional toolbox. She is thrilled to continue this work and learn about what makes this place unique in her recent move to the Portland area. 

Maggie is passionate about developing student awareness of our interconnectedness and interdependence with the natural world. Whether this be snacking on peas from the garden (food is nature!), watching worms turn food scraps into compost, or finally recognizing a Chickadee's song, she is ready to foster these moments with the Willow School community. 

While off the clock, you will find Maggie swimming in the ocean, cooking from her garden, knitting, and noticing the season's changes in a sit spot.
